When I begin a new work, I take a moment to become still. I quiet my mind and listen. The initial material then becomes fertile ground that already contains the information. I only have to find it.
I begin by destroying an image.
I transform it, deliberately moving toward imbalance. I let go to allow something to emerge that I could never have imagined. Yet every transformation is a choice: I decide the action, never the destination.
I explore multiple combinations until the forms begin to make sense. This is when I recognize the information.
I then begin to build the artwork to give form to what I have perceived. Part of my work becomes conscious and precise; another remains intuitive and continues to lead me toward the unknown. Little by little, I develop this new creation, sculpt it, and bring it to completion.
When the artwork is finished, the title becomes self-evident. It contains the essence of what I have grasped from the information and inscribed in the artwork.
The story can then emerge in two different ways.
Sometimes, during the creative process, the meaning I perceive in the information becomes clear to me. The story then arises almost immediately, putting into words what I have perceived.
At other times, I have recognized what is appearing in the image without yet grasping the information the artwork carries. I then begin to build a story in the same way I build an artwork: without knowing its destination. The narrative gradually emerges and, through it, a reading of the information reveals itself.
The story then leads me back to the artwork. My perception has changed: I discover elements I had not consciously noticed before, which now take on meaning through the narrative. Another story might reveal others. The artwork opens several paths, but each one is grounded in what is actually there.
The artwork illuminates the story. The story illuminates the artwork.
It is through this back-and-forth that I gradually discover the full extent of what I have created.
The story has brought the artwork to life. Now it remains to give it a physical reality, a material presence.
Once the artwork is complete, another stage begins: the transition from screen to print.
This is when colors encounter matter, when light is no longer emitted by a screen but reflected by a surface.
Each print becomes a kind of test of truth. Some images remain stable, others transform, and some reveal a depth the screen had not yet shown.
At times, I even discover that the print surpasses the digital image. Greens gain depth, lighter areas become material, and colors find a new balance.
The print gives me precise information. It allows me to adjust the image so that the final print reveals the full presence of the artwork.
Once I approve a print, that version becomes the reference. The image displayed online then corresponds exactly to the final printed artwork.
